I’m Laura Vitale, an artist and musician who lives in Santa Cruz, CA. Raised by scientist parents who forbade me to take art classes in high school, during my 20s, I taught myself to draw, began painting, and eventually earned a master's degree in art therapy. Since 2007, I’ve devoted myself to process painting, producing nearly 500 paintings and several books of artwork.

Education

I received my B.A. in English Literature from the University of Colorado in Boulder and my M.A. in Art Therapy from Vermont College.

Dream Studies

Along with my academic pursuits, I spent 10 years in training with a Jungian analyst who mentored me in dreamwork. My fascination with dreams had begun during my teens, when a series of powerful nightmares directed my attention inward. Since then, I’ve documented over 10,000 of my own dreams and worked with fellow dreamers using a symbolic Jungian approach.

Why Paint?

For many years art has been my personal savior. Painting connects me with my feeling imagination and brings me back to myself.
